"Education is not the filling of pail, but the lighting of a fire"
William Butler Yeats 1865-1939 Welcome to Rm 2 Kindergarten at Bridlewood P.S.! We are so excited and pleased to have your child enrolled in our class. This year will be an interesting and exciting year filled with many creative learning experiences. With your help, interest and cooperation we can work together to make this an extremely successful year for your child.
While your child will experience short Circle Times each day the majority of your child’s time in Kindergarten will be spent exploring concepts through hands-on, active, play-based learning and Reggio inspired activities. Research has shown that play-based exploration is beneficial for young children and can be used to further their knowledge in many areas of school curriculum. Our class will be divided into various activity centres. These centres include: Art, Writing, Math, Science, Listening, Reading, Drama, Puzzles, Technology, Building, and Sensory Centres. Throughout the year, the centres will be changed, materials modified and teacher provocations adapted to be developmentally appropriate and to correspond with the areas of the new Kindergarten Curriculum 2016 including: Belonging and Contributing, Self-Regulation and Well-Being, Demonstrating Literacy and Mathematics Behaviours, Problem Solving and Innovating. ABOUT THE TEACHER AND EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR
TEACHER: My name is Robert Beer. This is my eighth year teaching with the TDSB and fourth year at Bridlewood. I am very much looking forward to teaching Kindergarten again this year and seeing both new and familiar faces. Previously I've taught a Special Education programme and Grade 3 in my time at John Wanless PS. I have enjoyed a fantastic summer with my wife and little one taking in much of what the city has offer as well having the opportunity to vacation in Quebec. We took in the sights of Montreal and also did a 200km cycling trip though the Laurentian Mountains. Thank you once again. My movie, meal and Starbucks habit was well and truly satisfied not mention the other thoughtful presents that I received which will all be put to good use. This year it is likely that I will be coaching some of the school teams again. Basketball and Football (soccer) are my main interests and we are looking to repeat the success of the Girl's Football Team in recent years of reaching the Conference Semi-Finals and perhaps even getting to the final this year. My interests in physical fitness progress into the classroom and I like to incorporate a variety of actions, movements and songs into my everyday programming. I went to school in the U.K. graduating from the University of Southampton for my Bachelor of Arts Degree and later attended the Institute Of Education at University College London to gain my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). I have taken additional qualification courses in Special Education and maintain an interest in furthering my Professional Development to remain informed of the latest research and theories towards best practices and pedagogical thinking. Outside of the classroom I am a certified Soccer Coach by the English FA and the Ontario Soccer Association and have been an Instructor at Ace Taekwondo in Mississauga. Presently I train with Young Choung Taekwondo @yctkd44 at Variety Village. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of the Bridlewood P.S. community and am very excited about the upcoming year. REGISTERED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR: My name is Rathy Krishnakumar and this is my sixth year educating at Bridlewood P.S. I previously taught two years with Ms. Ling in the Kindergarten Programme and it is a pleasure to be working with Mr. Beer for a fourth year. I enjoy working and learning in the Bridlewood community and being part of the wonderful staff. I attended college in Sri Lanka and graduated with Montessori and Pre School Diplomas. Prior to completing my ECE Diploma with Seneca College, and then working with the TDSB, I taught in Montesorri Schools in Sri Lanka and Brunei. I really enjoy working with the kindies. It is both my pleasure and passion to help them learn and grow. I love cooking, playing tennis & cycling with my family. I enjoy baking with the students which I find creates many opportunities for engaging and meaningful discoveries across the Kindergarten Expectations including math, language, sensory, fine motor and social skills. Children enjoy exploring a variety of recipes (nut free) and will get the opportunity to taste different types of food that they have made. |
Each week we celebrate and learn about a new friend in the class. In addition they will have the honour of carrying out the prestigious task of taking the attendance to the office with a friend of their choice :)
